Within Liverpool there are too many wedding venues to mention. Some of the big players include the Adelphi, The Radisson, The Isla Gladstone Conservatory, The two Cathedrals, The Palm House, Elude, Liverpool or Everton Football Club, The Town Hall, The Marriot, St. George’s Hall, The Hard Days Night Hotel, Alicia Hotel, The Devonshire Country House Hotel, the Racquet club. The list just goes on and on.
Regardless of the venue, whether a church wedding or a civil ceremony, couples frequently ask me to shoot portraits at St. George’s Hall. I love shooting there and two of my images from St. George’s have won gold awards from the SWPP. The pillars of the building are truly dramatic and the light coming in between them is great to work with. Couples should be warned however that this is a really popular location for wedding portraits and as such can be busy in peak season. You can almost guarantee bumping into at least another wedding photographer on any given Saturday. It has been known that the car park staff there will let wedding cars in but if not there is parking to be had on William Brown Street although the driver of the wedding car will need to wait there in case any traffic wardens come wandering.
St Georges Hall staff don’t take appointments but have no objections to photographs on the premises. It’s a public right of way so it’s pretty much a free for all. You can even take photos outside when there’s a wedding going on inside.
Another popular location for portraits is the pier head. A lot of work has been done there over recent years and there are some really interesting shots to be had using the angles of the buildings as well as the imposing Liver Building. Parking is pretty straight forward but again it’s wise for the driver of the wedding car to remain with the vehicle and the photographer’s car.
Wider Merseyside Venues.
Outside of the city centre there are more venues than you can shake a stick at. Over the water there is the Hilbark Hotel, Ness Botanic Gardens, Leasowe Castle, Brook Meadow Hotel and the Kings Gap Court Hotel to name but a few.
On Merseyside we also have Knowsley Hall, Speke Hall, Hulme Hall, The Grange and Formby Hall Golf Club.
I’ve shot some really nice weddings in Liverpool City centre including one in particular which was at Liverpool Parish church. This is a brilliant little church with it’s own gardens which look out towards the river and the pier head. It’s a little gem ticked
away in the city centre amongst several high rise buildings. The location is fabulous and is within walking distance of the Radisson, the Town Hall and several other wedding venues including The Racquet Club, Atlantic Tower and the Hard Days Night Hotel.
